In general, one organ and tissue donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of more than 75 others, said our guest speaker on August 1. Chris Lowicki, Community Services Specialist for the NJ Sharing Network.
Unfortunately, there is a drastic shortage of organ donors and the demand far exceeds the supply. Chris said that 100,000 men, women and children await lifesaving organ transplants, including 4,000 in New Jersey.  The average wait time is five to seven years and 12 people die each day while waiting.
